Family Day at Amricani:
Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah Launches New Programme

The Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah (DAI) is proud to announce that the first Family Day at Amricani will be held this Saturday, 31 March, from 12 noon to 6 PM at the Amricani Cultural Centre. All three exhibitions (Treasury of the World: Jewelled Arts of India in the Age of the Mughals; Story of Amricani; The Golden Age of the Arab Sciences) will be open and special activities will be held for children and their parents throughout the day.

‏This month we will be focusing on our latest exhibition: The Golden Age of the Arab Sciences. Created and curated by the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris and sponsored by Total, the multi-media exhibition highlights the contributions to science made by scholars and scientists from the Islamic world.

‏“The age of stuffy museums that require quiet and instilled boredom is over. Today’s museums are interactive tools that encourage guests to have fun while expanding their knowledge. Family Day at Amricani will take things a step further, offering specific opportunities for children, from age 4 through secondary school, to work with their parents to solve puzzles, discover treasure and replicate an early experiment,” said DAI director Abdulkareem al-Ghadban.

The first activity will begin at 12:30 and will be for 9 – 12 year olds. This activity will be repeated at 5:30 PM. At 1:30 PM and again at 4:30 PM there will be activities for 6 – 8 year olds. 4 – 6 year olds get their first DAI experience at 2:30 PM and the focus will be on secondary students at 3:30 PM. Each of the activities will take 20 – 30 minutes and involve both children and parents.

‏“All the activities are designed to allow families to have fun together while learning more about the art and culture of the Islamic world,” concluded al-Ghadban. I hope to see lots of families there enjoying themselves.”
